Situated about 600 miles south of Miami and about 40 miles southeast of the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos are a British crown colony comprised of some 30 islands and cays, most of which are uninhabited. The eight major inhabited islands are Grand Turk, Salt Cay, South Caicos, East Caicos, Middle Caicos, North Caicos, West Caicos and Providenciales where most of the condo and casino flotsam is concentrated.
