URGENT RECALL: Suunto announces Vytec dive computer recall - Date: 2002-07-05| URGENT RECALL: Suunto Vytec dive computer | It has been found that using the SIMPLAN function may cause problems in Vytec computers with software version 21 (serial numbers 205000 – 223700) and cause risk to the diver.SIMPLAN is not to be used until Suunto has upgraded the software of these units. The error can only occur if three prerequisites are met: - the unit is in Nitrox Mode,
- the SIMPLAN function is used before the dive and
- The Mode button is pressed for more than 2 seconds.
If the above prerequisites are met, then during the dive some vital data in the Vytec's display may disappear or become incorrect. SIMPLAN Mode is part of the Vytec's Simulation function. If when in Nitrox Mode SIMPLAN is accidentally used, then accessing afterwards the SET-SET DIVE- NITROX function will remove the potential problem and allow for safe use. When diving with affected Vytecs without using SIMPLAN all other features of the instrument will work normally. The error cannot occur when in Air or Gauge Modes, or, as already stated, in Nitrox Mode if the SET-SET DIVE- NITROX function is accessed after the SIMPLAN function has been used. We will try and have a timescale for exchange units within 3 weeks, by 23 July. We also apologise for any inconvenience. How to get the Vytec exchanged: Return the unit to the Suunto dealer from whom it was purchased or contact Suunto. |
