While much remains to be done, security has been improving in the Solomon Islands since mid-2003 when armed police and military personnel from throughout Oceania, including Australia and New Zealand, arrived to help restore law and order. Peace has finally returned to Honiara, the capital of the Solomons, however, visitors should take precautions to avoid trouble.
