DIVE CANARY ISLANDS DIVE TRAVEL GUIDECanary Islands - Cyber Diver TOP 10 Dive Destination >> ince ancient times, Europeans have imagined the Canary Islands as the lost continent of Atlantis and described the archipelago as a Garden of Eden. On the way to becoming Europe's favorite sun 'n fun destination, the Canary Islands have lost much of their mythical appeal, but they remain attractive especially beyond the tourist traps where ancient villages, grape and olive fields, and lofty volcanic peaks remind us of what it was like before cheap air travel and mass tourism.
Like Hawaii, you don't go to the Canary Islands to go diving. You go to the Canary Islands AND you go diving. The seven main islands and six islets that comprise the Canary Islands offer dive travelers a wealth of excellent dive sites and a lot more that cannot be found in dedicated dive destinations. From active volcanoes and primeval forests to pulsating discos and beaches crammed full of well-oiled sunbathers, there is a spectacular variety of activities available to adventurous travelers. Divers can expect to find fair to good visibility, an abundance of marine life and some good wreck diving. Dive operators, including at least one liveaboard can be found throughout the Canary Islands but most are located on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. With mean temperature ranging from 18°C (64°F) in winter to 24°C (75°F) in summer, the best time to visit the Canary Islands is anytime. If you want to avoid the crowds and jacked-up prices, go elsewhere between December and February. Click image to enlarge map | Facts about the Canary Islands- Area: 7,447 sq km
